Frequently Asked Questions For Restoration

  1. For very little money, I can go out and buy brand new ceiling tiles. How can SafeSound claim that resurfacing my existing tiles would be "½ the cost" of tile replacement?

  2. What about the smell? Will my secretary be looking for the day off complaining of headaches from the fumes?

  3. Every now and again during a windy rainstorm, my roof springs a few leaks and I'll get stains on my ceiling. The stains are often bad enough so that I have to replace a tile or two. My ceiling now has this checkerboard look to it - different shades - new snow white tiles mixed in with the off-white, yellowing, older tiles. After, SafeSound's resurfacing, what can I do to keep a uniform look to my ceiling if I have to install a few new tiles every now and again?

  4. Color? I don't want white ceilings; can you give me pastel blue? Or my ceilings are beige; can SafeSound make them crisp white?

  5. So really how long will this last? Am I going to have to call you every two to three years?

  6. Why only ProCoat? Aren't all ceiling coatings pretty much the same?

  7. Overnight? Isn't that double time pay? How much extra will that cost?

  8. What about chipping and peeling? Do I need to purchase extra ProCoat for touch-ups?

  9. My tiles have been painted once or twice. Will ProCoat still work? (OR can you still resurface them?)

For very little money, I can go out and buy brand new ceiling tiles. How can SafeSound claim that resurfacing my existing tiles would be "½ the cost" of tile replacement?

Great Question! This is one we enjoy answering.

Let's assume that you purchase the (cheapest)? lowest cost tiles on the market - tiles so thin and flimsy your entire ceiling does 'the wave' every time doors open or close.

Now pay (even) minimum wage to have the old tiles removed. (Keep that minimum wage chart handy). After, the old tiles are out, you'll need to refer to that chart to pay someone to clean and paint the grids. While they're working on the grids, you might as well pay them to clean and paint the air diffusers and speaker plates, too.

Still have something left over in the petty cash box? Okay dig that out and pay the labor costs for the new (very inexpensive) tiles to be installed. Hopefully these will not need to be cut for sizing around alarms, sprinkler heads and light fixtures.

Think you're done? Sorry, not yet! The old tiles have to be carted away. What are the disposal charges? Dumpster pick up - priced by weight or cubic yard, and certainly none of us can calculate the long term environmental costs of these tiles unnecessarily filling up yet another overburdened landfill. Nonetheless it's a cost our children and grandchildren will bear. SafeSound News Note: Because of the savings to our landfills and the non-toxicity of ProCoat, the government has given ProCoat "Environmentally Preferred Product Designation." This means that using the ProCoat system contributes to the earning of "LEED" points for government agencies & buildings.

And what about clean-up. Were the folks who replaced your tiles responsible for that? Or did you have to employ a janitorial firm to vacuum the ceiling tile dust out of your computers, off your walls, floors, and fixtures?

Are you keeping track of all these costs?

Now that you're finished with tile replacement. you don't have to put out another dime for materials or labor. But let's look at your 'other' expenses . How much business was lost while you were " closed for renovation"? Or were you open? Was your ceiling replaced in sections? - merchandise moved and areas roped off? How much did you pay your employees for that? Did shoppers have to maneuver around an unsightly mess? Did you have concerns about keeping customers or visitors out of the work area? Did you have to pay anyone to monitor the area for safety or insurance reasons?

All of the steps, necessary for tile replacement, cost money. Add them up and SafeSound's resurfacing estimate is often less than half. And think of the convenience: You open your doors to SafeSound; we assess the work site, and prepare for resurfacing. At this point, you can go home, relax, have an adult beverage, play 'fetch' with the dog (or the kids) enjoy a peaceful dinner, relax some more, maybe have another adult beverage, watch a little TV, read, sleep.

When you come back to your business the next morning, your ceiling is like new, the surroundings are neat and clean, splatter and dust-free. The only thing in your dumpster is the light-weight plastic sheeting which SafeSound used to protect your walls and furnishings. (It's okay to exclaim "Wow"). We hear that a lot from our clients.

SafeSound News Note: Resurfacing truly is a fantastic money-saver. In fact, (but while we can't mention the retailer's name), a company with, perhaps, the largest purchasing power in this country, uses ProCoat on their ceilings. This company can buy trainloads of tiles at rock bottom prices but saves, both time and money, using ProCoat.

What about the smell? Will my secretary be looking for the day off complaining of headaches from the fumes?

The product we use is almost odorless. ProCoat's faint pine aroma is similar to the pleasant odor just after your floors are washed and dissipates within 24 hours. If your secretary has a headache, blame it on the 6 hour-old coffee in the office vending machine - not ProCoat.

After, SafeSound's resurfacing, what can I do to keep a uniform look to my ceiling if I have to install a few new tiles every now and again?

While SafeSound is resurfacing your ceiling, we can coat a few packages of new tiles at the same time. While these reserve tiles are in storage they will "age" at about the same pace as your ProCoated ceiling so, if and when replacement is necessary, the colors will more closely match than if you replaced with a new, uncoated tile .

Color? I don't want white ceilings; can you give me pastel blue? Or my ceilings are beige; can SafeSound make them crisp white?

Absolutely. Give us a paint chip, a drapery swatch - we'll match it. One of our clients- a restaurant chain had cranberry color tiles. When the restaurant changed its décor, they asked SafeSound to change their deep-toned tile color to pale sandstone.

So really how long will this last? Am I going to have to call you every two to three years?

A SafeSound coated ceiling tile, under the same environmental conditions,* will stay white for as long or longer than a brand new tile- Guaranteed by the ProCoat Manufacturer .

You probably will be calling us regularly - but for new and different projects and we're confident you'll be referring us to your colleagues and friends, too.

We use ProCoat because it is the only ceiling coating with such guarantees. It is not a quick fix; ProCoat is designed to last and last and last.

*Environmental conditions. If, for instance, we resurface the ceilings of a nursing home, an environment which is usually clean, almost sterile, and smoking-free, then one could expect the resurfaced ceilings to remain clean and white indefinitely.

But now, SafeSound resurfaces the ceilings in the billiard room and lounge of a private fraternal organization where the cigar smoke is so thick that fog lights have been installed to lead the way to the bar. Moreover, this 'club' is located between a six lane interstate highway and a steel foundry. If you could clear the smog away long enough to even see the ceiling, it would reveal that the coated tile still outlasts a new tile.

Environmental conditions have an impact on your tiles whether they are painted, coated, new, old, cheap, or expensive. ProCoat holds up better than any other ceiling surface. - Guaranteed by the Manufacturer!!

Why only ProCoat? Aren't all ceiling coatings pretty much the same?

Are Yugos and Cadillacs the same? Ripple and Champagne? SafeSound has tried other coatings; they are not the same. We have found ProCoat to be the undisputed "industry standard" - the best.

SafeSound encourages you to compare other coatings for your ceiling projects. Key questions to ask ceiling coating contractors or coating manufacturers, "Will this coating reduce the acoustical and fire retardant ratings of my tiles?" "By how much?" Their answer usually is "not much" or "not so much that anyone would notice ." Do they have test results; are the testing laboratories independent or 'in house' - sort of like - the fox watching the henhouse?

Ask those same questions of ProCoat. The answer is: "ProCoat is the only ceiling coating that has, and is proud to provide, independent laboratory test results which can show that ProCoat actually improves the acoustical and fire retardant ratings of tiles (and reduces smoke developed ratings.)"

Ask other ceiling coating contractors to prove how long their product will last. Will any give you the test results for longevity of whiteness? ProCoat will!

SafeSound is happy to have introduced ProCoat to customers who were disappointed and dissatisfied with other ceiling coatings they had tried. (We were delighted to have had the opportunity to introduce them to our superior service and workmanship, too.)

Overnight? Isn't that double time pay? How much extra will that cost?

Overnight is when we do most of our work. Those are our regular work hours. Timing is at and for your convenience but it doesn't come at a 'premium' price. If you prefer - daytimes, weekends, (most) holidays - those are also SafeSound's regular work hours. Ceiling resurfacing - SafeSound style - is intended to be non-disruptive to your business operations and hassle-free for you. SafeSound is in business to serve YOU. We will work around whatever schedule or tight time frame you have.

What about chipping and peeling? Do I need to purchase extra ProCoat for touch-ups?

ProCoat is not paint and will not chip, peel, or flake.

My tiles have been painted once or twice. Will ProCoat still work? (OR can you still resurface them?)

Absolutely!! While nothing can restore your painted tiles to their original acoustical value, ProCoat will slightly improve the acoustics even on previously painted tiles.

SafeSound's regular work hours are when stores, offices, schools, etc. are closed or less active. overnight. Look at your beautiful ceiling. (It's okay to exclaim "WOW") and to proceed with your business. It's really that simple and trouble free.

SafeSound did not become the premier ceiling restoration contractor and one of the few certified by the ProCoat manufacturer in the Northeast because we spent millions on advertising and have an army of crack salespeople. Our work speaks for itself. Word of mouth, referrals, friends telling others - not only how great their ceilings look and last but how much money they saved and how the entire process was hassle-free. We pride ourself on being 'unlikely' contractors. We do what we say we are going to do, when we say we will do it, and what the costs are - up front .
